Neighborhood Maps
Los Angeles, CA
As part of an extensive project for the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority- placing Metro communications within the varied, existing architecture of Los Angeles Metro Stations- a proposal for a prototype panelized frieze system to be mounted on the leaching concrete walls behind the Union Station train tracks.
In a train station, the walls behind the tracks are what is viewed the most and yet they are often completely bare. While the primary purpose of the MTA is to create a physical infrastructure of transportation, art can play a role in associating that infrastructure with the lives of those who use it, and the city it connects; this panel system incorporates silhouetted elements of the neighborhoods corresponding to each station so that the viewer below ground can remain connected to the city above.
